INTRODUCTION
The Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) was created on 1 October 2008, under article 21 (e) of the Judicial Service Commission Act, following the ratification of the current constitution and the dissolution of the Ministry of Justice. The Supreme Court was established on 18 September 2008. The court’s ruling (2008/SC-RU/01) on 2 December 2008 abolished article 21 (e) of the Judicial Service Commission Act and brought the DJA under the authority of the Supreme Court. However, the parliament passed a motion to bring the DJA’s budget and staff under the Judicial Service Commission on 25 December 2008.
The DJA is entrusted with overseeing the administration of the following courts:
Supreme Court
High Court
Civil Court
Criminal Court
Juvenile Court
